Dinner plans

Passion

Lately all I’ve really wanted to do is cook. It’s an awesome feeling preparing food, being creative and sharing those creations with others. I even do it on vacation. Recently I went to LA and visited my friend Chris Puleo and instead of going out every night I cooked a roast because I’d been thinking about it for weeks. Yes, I think about ingredients as I fall asleep at night.

Starving

I’m a starving artist, as such I’m broke as hell. I’ve been living off $20 a week since the middle of July. That’s the problem that I’m hoping to solve with this experiment. Can I get people together help offset the cost of food and still get to do what I’m passionate about at the moment? Isn’t that always the problem with creatives? If I could solve that problem I’d tackle world peace next.

My solution

I’m putting a dinner party together where I’d normally just cover the cost to host (because it’s seeing the people you love that is the real value), this time I’m taking a cue from other events and charging a cover. That cover is a per person cost of food alone. No need to get greedy, right?

Details:

Cover will be $7/person.

Food: Barbque Ribs and baked potatoes, side of watermelon.
Drink: Some form of Lynchburg Lemonade.

Full after 7 guests confirm.

This is an experiment; if successful more dinners will be planned in the future.

Beard removal

Over the last year I grew this beard. Today I decided to remove it from my face.

Enjoy.

Twitter roulette

A twitter experiment is afoot. I do this occasionally, usually when I get bored and motivated enough to burn some bridges, step on toes and promote tempests in teacups.

The idea

At its core it always starts in the same manner. I’ll be falling asleep or just waking up (this is how it works for dreamers like me), and an idea will pop into my head. This is the current idea: I want to hear new voices on twitter. I wouldn’t say I was bored so much as BORED TO DEATH of hearing the same jokes and observations and tones from the same people ad infinitum.

How I’ll run with it

First I unfollowed everyone. Duh.

Next I tried to use the “who to follow” option on twitter. I found it bizarre at best since it still thought I was following the same people and wanted to hear the same kind of noise. I don’t. But I went with it for now. That’s the best way to make magic happen, action over planning. I followed people I hadn’t seen before or followed for a long time.

The goal: 100 new people/week.

Next week I’ll use the who to follow but use a specific category to find the new 100. Or maybe I’ll find a list on a friends page with 100ish people and follow that.

The questions

Is there really a unique voice out there? Am I missing it? Can I fundamentally change the channel in social media?
